This engine comes in a ton of Mercedes models starting in the mid 2000's and even Sprinter vans, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the Chrysler 300 in different parts of the world. This was the very first OM642 I've torn down and let me tell you, this engine tested my patience. Between not being able to use air and the condition of this particular engine, I didn't have as much fun as I normally do. I'll remember this teardown for ever. Although this video features the OM642 engine, the areas to check will be common across many other Mercedes diesel engines and look very similar. Are you experiencing a Diesel smell in car )which can easily be confused with exhaust smell in car)? or maybe you have noticed exhaust fumes in car, especially coming through the heater vents when you pull up to a stop sign or traffic lights, then chances are that you have a diesel leak on your Mercedes diesel engine. These fuel vapors can make you smell exhaust in car, when it is actually a fuel smell in car. It’s very easy to confuse the two depending on how sensitive you nose is! I have also found worn return line connection O rings, also known as leak off pipe O rings and had to replace them. A brief set of videos for a set of modifications for our C320 CDI. It should give a good illustration of our process, and what is available for these via us. In the first episode, we do some datalogging for stock numbers and identify how well the stock IC cools on a normal pull. We can then use this data to confirm how effective the new intercooler is before we start doing other bits.
