Tune your Ukulele by ear with this Ukulele tuning video. Ukulele tuning is GCEA - the top G string is a thinner string, giving a higher note on the top of the Ukulele. I think my best sounding ukuleles are Kala mango baritone tuned low GCEA and Caramel all solid acacia gloss baritone tuned DGBE. After those two, I would say all my baritones come before my best sounding tenor, concert and sopranos. The GCEA baritone is about the same as the Caramel tenor in this video, I think. Ukuleles in the video are Caramel CT904 ebony tenor acoustic-electric and Kmise tiger flame baritone. Both ukuleles are set up with the same strings and tunings they had when I purchased them new.

Found a good combination for gcea tuning (low g) on my Kala mahogany baritone. Nice tension, not floppy or hard. Strings used in this set are: G -D'Addario nylon guitar g string C - D'Addario Cuatro A string E - D'Addario Cuatro B string A - D'Addario Cuatro F# string
This video should give you a pretty good idea how the different sized baritone and tenor ukuleles sound with the same GCEA tuning. I find key of C songs much easier to play on baritone ukes tuned GCEA. Also, if a person has a soprano or concert uke, they can get a GCEA baritone and play songs the same way they do now on the smaller ukes. Search Kmise baritone ukulele GCEA. You should find several choices.

Play the string and listen for a difference in the notes 3. Turn your tuners, making small adjustments 4. Repeat until your note matches the one played. Tips: New ukuleles get out of tune very quickly. You'll have to tune and play your ukulele often for the first 4 days before the strings set and stretch. CAUTION Do NOT turn the tuners too far too fast. But look around for a brand that you might like. In this video, you could tune your ukulele to it if you do not have your own tuner. But the main object is to show you an easy way to keep your ukulele in-tune with the clip on tuner if you are first-time ukulele player looking for some help. You do not have to be able to read musical notation with this video. I have included a one-octave piano picture from C,D,E,F,G,A,B so that you could follow with your tuner to guide you along. In the German notation the B that we are use to, is actually called H, but for our purpose we will stay with B. Signs: # (the pound sign) is actually in musical notation called sharp. It means to raise the tone half a step up. If you were on the G note (on the white keys of the piano chart here) and you wanted to move half a step higher it would be called G# or G-sharp (on the piano guide it would be on the black notes). Sign: b (looks almost like a small b) is actually in musical notation called a flat. It means to lower the note half a step down. if you were on the A note (on the white keys of the piano chart here in the video) and you wanted to move half a step down it would be called an Ab or A-flat (on the piano guide it would be on the black note between G and A - with the blue writing here on the piano chart guide as Ab). As you will notice on the chart (included again at the end of video), that the black notes have 2 different writing in white and blue. For example, between G and A is a black note with different writing in white G#, and in blue Ab. This is an example of one note having two different names, so don't be confuse. This is all the theory for now.I will include an English caption, hopefully I can have more languages too. The 'Ukulele was influenced by an European instrument from Portugal called the Braguinha which was brought to Hawaii around the late 1800's (1879). Ukulele means runnin flea. One could spell the Ukulele with out a glottal apostrophe like this 'Ukulele, which many of the Polynesian islands would use like they do normally in Tonga. So both spelling are fine. The young man above with the tuning presentation just started to learn to play the 'ukulele regularly 5 weeks before filming this tuning tutorial this summer 2012. I wanted to try out how a baritone ukulele sounded in C-tuning, because I think the longer neck & string length will give a better vibrato and a longer sustain, so I turned my Lanikai spruce top baritone into a super tenor by using Aquila 23u baritone strings
