This video shows Eco-Panels of Tennessee installing SIPS panels. 🤍 Eco-Panels are SIP panels. A SIP (Structural Insulated Panel) is an engineered product used to form a structural wall or roof components in residential or commercial applications and is used in place of conventionally “stick framed” construction. A SIP is generally a structural inner and outer skin with foam insulation in between that is “fused” together to provide not only the structure of the wall/roof but also provide superior insulating qualities. SIP products have been around for many years and are recognized as building code compliant. That being said, what is an Eco-Panel specifically? Eco-Panels are a SIP product made in Tennessee at our manufacturing facility in Clay County. At Eco-Panels we go beyond the standard SIP product and create a better system to build a better house. Simply a Better Way to Build GET STARTED Zero Energy Ready Home Product Eco-Panels of Tennessee is recognized as an innovation partner by the US Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Office. There are three super important construction parts for building with SIPs...Frames, Batons and Splines. Once you learn the basic build techniques using these three parts, you can build virtually any SIPs structure. Frames: after the base, this is the next step. The frame is what secures the walls to the base - take you time and be accurate and the walls will slot in and the structure will go up in no time. Batons: these lengths of wood are used to cap off the bear insulation between the boards, and you also screw the roof down into the batons on the tops of the wall panels. Splines: these timber lengths slot in between the wall panels and fix each panel to the next one along. No matter how big or small the project, it's all simply a case of framing, batoning and splining until the job is done!

SIPs are unquestionably stronger than most stick framed wood structures. Largely because they are structurally engineered in large sections and factory fabricated with precision production equipment. SIPs also have solid cores, where as site-framed wood structures have cavities filled with insulation that is most often not a rigid engineered (strong and dense) insulation. In this video see a simulated missile test with hurricane force projections at both a SIP section and wood framed 2x6 section. The results are obvious and visually depict why SIPs are approved in strong wind areas like Miami Dade County, and in some manufacturers (like Premier SIPS) are approved for Seismic Zones. One of the most common questions asked is how do SIPs compare cost wise to traditional stick framing? The answer is simple, and it isn't. When it comes to straight materials there is a 5-10% increase because SIPs are manufactured higher grade sheathing on both sides of the walls/roofs/floors, solid core engineered insulation (instead of batt insulation), as well as engineered lumber components. However there are many other elements that make SIPs projects LESS expensive than stick frame (stud) construction that go beyond the materials and are a result of the offsite fabrication, energy efficiency and higher performance that SIPs deliver to buildings. This quick glimpse was prepared by Wright Engineers in Arizona based on several projects they delivered, and visually depicts how different project elements stack up for overall project cost savings with SIPs Buildings vs Stick framed buildings. 🤍 Passive House Structural Insulated Panels. Sean Miskelley from Clarum Homes explains the use of SIPs in the Menlo Passive home.Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are high performance building panels used in the external envelope - floors, walls, and roofs for residential buildings. The SIPs panels are typically made by sandwiching a rigid core of foam plastic insulation between two structural skins of oriented strand board (OSB). They offers great air tightness and insulation with superior R values. The resulting home is extremely strong, energy efficient and cost effective. Building with SIPs will save you time, money and labor. Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are not more expensive. Generally, building with SIPs generally costs about the same as building with wood frame construction, when you factor in the labor savings resulting from shorter construction time and less job-site waste. You will also realize other savings over time because less expensive heating and cooling systems are required with SIP construction. When was the last time you framed, insulated and wrapped a 2500 sf house in 6 hours? Quick, Easy Install. Using RAYCORE Structural Insulated Panels ® for the first time, Idaho builder/framer Chad Bannister, with Bannister Construction’s 4-man crew did just that. Here’s what Chad has to say about his first experience with RAY-CORE SIPs ®: What Were Some of Your Concerns About Using RAY-CORE SIPs ® ? - “It looked like it might take a little extra time to cut and fit all the wall panels, especially make everything to stay on layout, but honestly we got it done faster than we would have otherwise.” How Long Did it Take to Frame This 2500 sf house? - “We have 4 guys and it took about 6 hours to get it ready for the trusses to go on. Did You Like RAYCORE’s Insulated Headers? - “The insulated headers were great! Normally we make a cut list the night before we show up on a job, and spend the first 3 or 4 hours just cutting the materials for our headers, kingstuds and trimmers. This time all we had to do is cut our kingstuds and trimmers, and cut the insulated headers to length and drop them in. We had all the openings built in a few hours.” Would You Use RAY-CORE SIPs ® Again? - “Absolutely!” RAY-CORE SIP’s ® – a far superior kind of structurally insulated panel! NOT a Sandwich Panel SIP that relies on a “sandwich” of two layers of OSB glued to polystyrene foam to provide the structure of your home. RAYCORE Structural Insulated Panels ® are made up of century-old tried and true Douglas fir studs, combined with state-of-the-art blend of closed-cell polyurethane foam insulation and a foil radiant air barrier to provide a superiorly strong, tight and super insulated panel that you can depend on for the lifetime of your home.
